Scottish Applesauce Cake Recipe

Cake: Cream butter and sugar.
Add eggs, vanilla, salt, and cloves; beat well.
Stir in applesauce.
Gradually add flour, mixing well.
Stir in butterscotch.
Pour into greased and floured 8 x 12 x 2-inch pan.
Bake at 350° for 30 to 35 minutes.
Add topping.
Topping: Boil all ingredients together until butter and morsels melt.
When cake is done, leave in pan; spread topping on cake.
Broil 1 minute or so until golden brown.
