NJ's First Brewpub
On January 3rd 1995, The Ship was proud to become the first in New Jersey to brew beer for consumption on premise since the days of Prohibition. Each week we brew fine hand crafted ales in 7 barrel batches using freshly milled whole grain. Our unfiltered beers are made in a Peter Austin system complete with handmade brick, copper and open fermenters in the old English tradition. We use Ringwood yeast and Munton and Fison's malt from England. We use English and American hops produce ales with internationally appreciated flavor.
All our ales are served with England in mind. We keep our beers at a cellar temperature of 46-50 degrees F. Some of our ales, like our flagship Best Bitter, are kept in a naturally carbonated state and hand pumped from beer engines.Others, like our ESB, Mild, and Session Ale, are lightly carbonated for the American palate.View a full list of beers, that appear on our rotating tap lists.
Scheduled tours covering the technical, historical and cultural aspects of brewing are available for groups by appointment with our brewer. Individuals may enjoy impromptu, informal tours from one of our staff members. You can also watch our short "Brewing Process" video.
